ALLSTATE FOUNDATION VIEW SEL AS HOLISTIC APPROACH - 45 MILLION GIVEN TO CASEL "SEL MOVEMENT"

"Tips for Talking to Doctor about Mental Health" by National Institutes of Health (NIH) is marked with CC PDM 1.0

Practicing Holistic Medicine Without a License?

Wasn't mental health a discussion with your primary doctor?
National Institutes of Health gives you tips on taking care of your mental health.

CASEL started out as a "Movement" and they also mention "In the Home". CASEL Targeted 8 Urban School Districts, such as Cleveland, Ohio and 7 other States. Social Emotional learning was not tailored for all children just Minority children and CASEL was a Social Movement.

ALLSTATE Foundation says SEL is a Holistic view of learning (Mental & Social Factors) Isn't that what SEL is all about being a Psychologist; a Mental Health Facilitator in the School system? Don't you talk with your doctor about mental health issues if your child seems to have emotional problems? Parents are leaving it up to a Teachers to teach Social Emotional Learning and placing Critical Race Theory as a tool of learning that the person sitting next to you is different and something is wrong with you! isn't that Psychological abuse?

A holistic approach means to provide support that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs. The support should also consider their physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.  A holistic approach focusses on a person's wellness and not just their illness or conditionhttps://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/what-is-holistic-medicine

Now basic training manual to teachers without a license to practice medicine a young childs mind, thoughts, fears, emotions? How many teachers feeling overwhelmed? Now they have to practice being Psychologist without a license?  I think parents should start talking to their primary care doctors and get a doctor's note that your child doesn't need Social Emotional Learning and to tell the school they do not practice medicine without a license and are not a Medical facility and leave it to the REAL Psychologist!

What are the ramifications if the program doesn't go well and a child takes his or her own life? Will the Teacher be removed and Sued? Will there be a cover up? To enforce Social Emotional Learning on a child who is well adjusted and to make the small child believe because the color of your skin that he or she did something to another person is PYSCHOLOGICAL ABUSE and a LIE being told to that small child and might have a horrible impact on that small child.

There was a incident in Perry, Ohio where 6 kids kill themselves within months of each other and you will never get a straight answer from that Board of Education. "The Home of The Panthers" CDC in Stark County to review youth suicides connected with Perry Local Schools. Suicide Epidemic!

"How to Sell Manual" to get into every school in the nation and taking Social Emotional Learning and implementing with Critical Race Theory because the program wasn't developed for Emotional Stable Children. They have used tactics on every part of the Society in America like using the police as a cause to say the police cause children to be emotional unstable and on the other hand they say Safe Haven then blame the police, that is called "Double Speak." Trickery.

Cleveland, Ohio School District.

Teachers and principals said that building supportive school environments and nurturing so-called "soft skills" can be challenging in high-poverty districts like Cleveland, where all students receive free and reduced-price lunches. Situations outside of school—often related to poverty, crime, or community conflicts—can make it difficult for students to focus in the classroom, teachers said.

The city's police department has been singled out by the U.S. Department of Justice for using overly aggressive tactics, leading to a sense of distrust in low-income and predominantly African-American communities. Last November, a Cleveland police officer shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who had been a student in the district. That shooting, along with events in Baltimore and Ferguson, Mo., have sparked national conversations about race and the limits of police power.    See other states Here

As shown on CASEL webpage in 2016 - "JOIN THE MOVEMENT" in 2016 it was critical for parents to join the movement in the 8 Urban School Districts.
Britannica Shows: social movement, a loosely organized but sustained campaign in support of a social goal, typically either the implementation or the prevention of a change in society’s structure or values.

From CASEL Webpage: Social and emotional learning starts at home. Parents and families are critical partners in helping their children develop social and emotional know-how. They can model the kinds of skills, attitudes, and behaviors we want all students to master. And they can be important advocates for SEL at school.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT

Opinion:
As a parent can you look at your child right now and ask: is your community safer now then say 2 years ago? Is your child an Emotional wreck from the Community you live in or from what the schools as been teaching them?  Was that the intent after-all?
Defund the police, social reform on children, one way of thinking? I think you know the answers to the above questions. It was tailored only to one side and it is far from what is called "Equity" - Fair or Just. It's Psychological Care for the minority and Critical Race Theory is your Whiteness has held the minority back and the White people in the United States Of America is at fault.

Money Is Flowing to Social-Emotional Learning: Allstate Foundation Dedicates $45 Million

Oct. 17, 2018

Associate Editor

An ambitious plan to contribute $45 million to social-emotional learning initiatives over the next five years was announced by the Allstate Foundation today.

The nonprofit, which is offering programs to public and private schools, as well as to parents and students directly, said it expects to reach 25 percent of the nation’s youth with its social-emotional learning offerings by 2022. The organization has already invested $22 million since 2015, when it began to focus on this aspect of student development.

“We feel this is such a critical time to have this information and action taking place that raises awareness, so state legislatures can support SEL,” said Laura Freveletti, senior manager for the Allstate Foundation, in a phone interview.

The funding is primarily going to nonprofit partners for direct programming for youth, she said.  The initiative was launched after a survey of insurance consumers identified “issues in education as their #1 concern,” said Freveletti.

The foundation’s subsequent analysis examined what could make a major impact on students’ success, with a primary focus on 10- to 18-year-olds, but also for elementary students. The result was an emphasis on social-emotional learning, and the multi-faceted Good Starts Young program, which supports organizations and sponsors causes designed to improve the lives of young people.

Underpinning Allstate’s efforts are the five competencies that the Chicago-based Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, or CASEL, emphasizes in its definition of social-emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decisionmaking. The foundation supports CASEL’s work on the following sites: Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) Resources for Educators, and CASEL SEL in the Home.

Social-emotional learning is a growing priority for many schools. EdWeek Market Brief recently published exclusive survey data showing that the vast majority of K-12 districts have invested in SEL, or will do so over the coming year. And my colleague Evie Blad recently wrote for Education Week about 10 large school districts that are partnering with CASEL to implement comprehensive social-emotional-learning strategies and to allow researchers to study their results.

Another initiative is called WE Schools, which offers a four-step program delivered by educational partners in 12,300 schools and groups across North America and the U.K. It is designed to challenge young people to identify the local and global issues that interest them and offers tools to help them take action. Educator resources are also available.

Challenging Mass Exodus out of Public Schools - The pitfalls it may have on Children. Home school vs Public School. CRT, SEL, EQUITY

"Apples (Malus Domestica) (1908) by Amanda Almira Newton. Original from U.S. Department of Agriculture Pomological Watercolor Collection. Rare and Special Collections, National Agricultural Library. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel." is marked with CC0 1.0

 What's at Stake Your Child's Well-being?
A Mass Exodus?

 Exodus noun

  1. A departure of a large number of people.
  2. The departure of the Israelites from Egypt.
  3. A going out; departure from a place; especially, the migration of large bodies of people or animals from one country or region to another; specifically, in history, the departure of the Israelites from Egypt under the leadership of Moses.

An Apple a day keeps the the doctor away!

The first stems from the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Here, the “Tree of Knowledge,” from which Eve eats the forbidden fruit, is often depicted as an apple tree. The apple, therefore, is the fruit of knowledge, making it a fitting gift for a teacher.

"The Apple Seed that you plant should be well taken care of; you plant the seed, you water it and take care of it, watch it grow and it produces wonderful fruit. The Seeds of learning placed into a child mind and watch him/her flourish is how we produce healthy adults; we don't produce fruit or greatness by watching it wither away." - Barb Nied

admissionsly.com -As of 2020, there is 130,930 recorded number of K-12 schools in the United States of America (U.S.A), according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Opinion:

The Questioning of Mass Exodus on Children across America, the heated discussion on what should be done to benefit a childs learning needs of recently of "what the heck is my child learning?" Critical Race Theory? Not the 3 R's thrown in with Social Emotional Learning.

The public school system has change within 20+ years with SEL and placing a college course on PreK-12 of Critical Race Theory into the minds of children and adults. SEL Social Emotional Learning & CRT and Equity if you do not go along, you are a supremacist part of the KKK or a White Nationalist and some educators are agreeing and placing parents and child in a not so nice situation. What happened to the Educators? How did they end up this way? do we fight by Mass Exodus and leave them stranded with no help? How does that benefit the Educational system?

With homeschooling, I have to go by my insight of dealing with a company that offered Home Schooling and it was a fiasco, I don't think all homeschooling is bad, the question is what factors does it really benefit for the child's learning needs. You can go far as to say many homes schools get paid money from the state and each child has a dollar symbol attached and as a parent you hope that the Educational Facility that is offering homeschooling is doing it for all the right reasons.

As stated above I am not against homeschooling as long as the child benefits and excels not only in studies but emotionally. To have a Mass Exodus of mass leaving in the now systemic problems in the educational system doesn't stop the systemic problems in the United States System, it does help bring notice to the problems that the United States of America's Education Institutions are facing from parents.

The damage has been done. The Psychological affects has already seeped into the minds of Adults and Children with Critical Race and Equity. Now what do we do? Mass Exist?  I believe we stay and speak up and change and make a number 1 priory to fix the Systemic problems caused by people who are adults who made this happen. You hold adults accountable for their action or non-action in protecting the very core of the future of the United States by what is taught in school. To take SEL and for people to taint it and inter mingling with it a Marxist Ideology and no one take notice is so very alarming beyond reason.

SEL start out on focusing on the less fortunate children and programs that were not available.  Social Emotional Learning was I believed to be a concept used for children with a learning disability, not a school disability but there is the problem, not all children have emotional problems and are stable. The emotional damage of Critical Race Theory is not Equity - It just not fair.

 Physical Building a School

The hunger of a child in poor household and the child gets fed at a public school, I hope in the year 2021 that is not happening as was in prior school years. When the weak doesn't have anyone to speak up for them, sometimes you find that help in a public school. We should always give children every opportunity in the world for a child to learn and that a child feels safe and can depend on walking in a school and can depend on the people in that school building to tend to the child.

  • “Recent research shows that many children who do not have enough to eat wind up with diminished capacity to understand and learn. Children don’t have to be starving for this to happen. Even mild undernutrition – the kind most common among poor people in America – can do it.” Carl Sagan

Teachers who play one of the most significant parts of a child's life besides a parent is a teacher and its school.  The new wave of non-attachment over a computer screen is not the same as in person. Social Emotional impact and learning over a computer screen and not being able to be in the same room with your peers must have a psychological affect; wearing a mask all the time even in your home, not hugging, not standing by your peers or even playing in the schoolyard having fun with no care or worry's has enormous of consequences of a child development socially & emotionally and now throwing in Critical Race Theory and Equity, it appears not all is playing the same on the same playground and a Mass Exodus would affect Teachers throughout the United States of America and even their children, what shall we do then with those teachers?

Covid Happened

The child shouldn't be worrying to death of getting Covid or the person that he might be sitting next to will give him/her Cooties, the stress now on display is disturbing and it's the adults fault, not the child's.

Suicides among young children and teens. As shown at ucdavis.edu, before Covid hit suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10-24 and has been increasing every year since 2007

The biggest increase in youth deaths occurred in the 15-24 age bracket — the age group most susceptible to committing suicide, and which constitutes 91% of youth suicides. Indeed, as early as July 2020 — just four months into the pandemic — CDC Director Robert Redfield remarked that

·         there has been another cost that we’ve seen, particularly in high schools. We’re seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from COVID. We’re seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose.

  • Robert Redfield, MD, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: But there has been another cost that we’ve seen, particularly in high schools. We’re seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from COVID. We’re seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose that are above excess that we had as background than we are seeing the deaths from COVID. So this is why I keep coming back for the overall social being of individuals, is let’s all work together and find out how we can find common ground to get these schools open in a way that people are comfortable and their safe.

Home School: Some states requirement are the same as a public school and some home schools get away with more then a public school, no one is overseeing who running a tight ship at at home school. I agree that some home schools are done with the intent with the ideology of the household religion or are fed up with what was being taught to their child. Numerous reason to home school children but a mass exodus? how would that benefit the whole educational system? Not every parent can afford to stay at home or home school and yes their are still parents  who don't even know they have options. To take a stand that mass exodus will increase in better learning? What about children in a School Setting that has a learning disabilities, I understand home schools have IEP specialist and they form a plan for the child learning needs (IDEA) Some children cannot sit in front a computer screen and do the work on their own they need special attention.

I don't agree with Mass Exodus as it's seems just to complicated and not only will the child education suffer the teachers as well.  It's emotional for all involved and maybe that is what the intent was after all.

Each parent will have to decide and speak up to what is best for their child's education needs are.  You may disagree with the entire opinion above and have your take on the educational system, I hope you do and comment as parents, teachers and educational administrators.  We need solutions not arresting parents for disagreeing with an Education System that has become Emotionally Broken.
