Nothing says “I’m here to fight the radical left” like Tucker Carlson on a Qatar beach in a suit and tie, flashing the devilish middle finger in disguise, grinning with a red cocktail in hand next to a Qatari official doing the exact same pose. That photo went viral this week for a reason.
Tucker, the guy who spends every night screaming about “Marxist professors” and “Soros-funded campus mobs” just got flown to Doha, put up in a five-star resort, and paid to interview the emir of the same country that’s been quietly writing the checks for a lot of that campus chaos. And he’s not alone. Trump, GOP congressmen, and half the conservative influencer circuit are doing the same happy-hour dance in the desert.
Look, conservatives love to scream about “radical left campuses,” George Soros money, and pro-Palestine protests ruining America. But a lot of the same Republicans are flying first-class to Qatar, taking gifts, and calling it the most “stable” and “modern” country in the Middle East. That’s wild, because Qatar is quietly paying for a ton of the exact “woke” chaos conservatives say they can’t stand.
Here’s the simple truth in plain English:
Qatar looks super conservative on the outside
- Absolute monarchy
- Sharia law
- Being gay can get you 7 years in prison
- Women have almost no rights compared to the West
- But Qatar spends billions pushing super progressive stuff in the West
- They own Al Jazeera. The English version is rated “Lean Left” and pushes the same talking points you hear at college protests: “Israel bad, America is imperialist, climate change now, etc.”
- Their TikTok-style channel AJ+ is basically progressive memes with Qatari money behind them.
- Qatar is the #1 foreign donor to American colleges – $6.25 BILLION since 2001
- Cornell, Georgetown, Northwestern, Texas A&M all have huge campuses in Qatar paid for by the emir.
- Studies show this money helps spread anti-Israel and pro-Hamas ideas on U.S. campuses.
- A lot of the “free Palestine” encampments and chants Republicans hate? Follow the money… a bunch of it traces back to Doha.
- They host the political leaders of Hamas in five-star hotels while telling the world they’re just “mediators.”
Republicans still love them
- Trump flipped from calling Qatar terrorists in 2017 to accepting a $400 million private jet from them in 2025.
- GOP congressmen took free Thanksgiving trips to Qatar and came back saying how “amazing” everything is.
- Conservative influencers (yes, including Tucker) get all-expenses-paid vacations and suddenly post, surprise, suddenly post “Qatar is misunderstood!”
“Why are you cool with Qatar doing the exact same thing… but with way more money and better drinks?” Qatar isn’t conservative, they’re just rich, smart, and currently playing a huge chunk of the American right like a fiddle.
